Saturday 19th December

Father Christmas will be riding on his pony and trap down Widecombe hill and touring the village before distributing his FREE gifts to children 11 and under.  There will be lots of activities throughout the day.  For detailed information tel 01364 621321

10am – 11am Church bells pealing
9.30am – 3pm Village Market
11am – 3pm Tavistock Brass Band
12 noon – 3pm Nativity Animals under the Christmas tree
1pm Father Christmas leaves top car park, Widecombe hill and tours the village ending up outside the National Trust shop to distribute gifts
3pm Father Christmas departs
3.00pm Church bells pealing
3.30pm Carol Service, St Pancras Church

On and around the green, there will be mulled wine and mince pies, fruit punch, hot chestnuts, raffle for the history group (1st prize  - hamper), soup, biscuit decorating, story-telling, ‘Santa Special’ meals at £1 for children , old fashioned games, fir cone decorating, turkey and cranberry paninis, local market and food tastings.

National Trust volunteers required at Castle Drogo and at Widecombe-In-The-Moor

The National Trust are currently looking for volunteers at Castle Drogo and in Widecombe-In-The-Moor.

Widecombe: Volunteer Raffle Ticket Seller – One of the National Trust’s many fundraising activities is the promotion of raffles and key to this work are the many volunteer raffle ticket sellers. This is a great opportunity to become an integral member of the Dartmoor NT team based at Widecombe in the Moor. The role involves engaging members of the public in order to secure raffle ticket income. Commitment: 1day a week. More info

Drewsteignton: Volunteer Visitor Experience Assistant – Castle Drogo is an exciting and diverse property that is exploring innovative ways of engaging supporters with its work. To promote, administer and facilitate under the guidance of the Visitor Services Manager and Learning Officers, the use of Castle Drogo and its grounds, by formal educational groups such as schools and family learning groups, as well as families visiting the property. Approx. Start date Early October (Closing date for applications 18th September Commitment:Up to 4 days a week Accommodation: Shared accommodation with 2 other Full Time Volunteers is offered in the main castle. Drewsteignton: Volunteer Conservation Learning Assistant – Castle Drogo is an exciting and diverse property that is exploring innovative ways of engaging supporters with conservation. This role will include: To undertake day-to-day care and cleaning of the historic building and its collections, for their preservation and presentation to visitors. To interpret conservation in action to visitors, by demonstrating and communicating housekeeping techniques and skills. Approx start date : Early October ( Closing date for applications Sept 4th) Commitment: Up to 4 days a week. As a key member of the Castle Drogo gardening team, contribute to the provision of a quality service to the property and to meet National Trust standards in line with agreed procedures and provide a warm welcome to visitors. To provide hands on practical support to the garden team. Approx Start Date : Early October (Closing date for applications 4th September) Commitment – Up to 4 days a week.
