Walking is obviously the favourite of the many things to do.

The moors beckon from all around offering stunning scenery and breathtaking Tors with wild Dartmoor ponies and foals roaming freely. To really feel the freedom and tranquillity of the open moody moorland, literally just step out of the gate......

For the horse rider there are stables nearby, but for the horse owner my neighbour has offered livery literally “over the fence” in newly refurbished stables. There is also an indoor sand school and direct access to the moor from Lydford Station Stables.

The cyclist can access the Route 27 cycle track directly from our gate, or bikes can be delivered to Burn Cottage by Devon Cycle Hire, who supply new well maintained bikes, helmets etc

Lydford Gorge waterfall entrance is a short walk from the house, and this was recently voted the National trust`s most romantic place to visit.

Brentor Church on top of the Tor is well worth a visit with it's ancient rugged walls, unique atmosphere, and gorgeous views.

The moor above the wildflower meadow is home to skylarks nesting in the tufts of grass. Many small birds live here without disturbance, goldcrest, redstart, all the finches, snipe, fieldfare, redwing, buzzard and red kite to name a few.

The 6 acres here are an extension of the moors and have been left undisturbed for the pleasure of all wild creatures including deer, badgers, foxes, rabbits, mice, moles.

The large lake is home to Damsel flies, many different Dragonflies, butterflies, frogs, newts, toads, small water insects and also a huge Koi.
